A Little Bit of Morning

So many folks, not up before dawn, often miss the soft and dappled light show on the eastern horizon. The sky transitions from a deep grey blue to a brighter and lighter blue. And, when blue cannot hold on any longer, it surrenders to pale and then golden orange.

My friend's toddler didn't miss the daybreak magnificence at all. He peered out the window just before the sun showed its bright morning face, then ran to his father. "Daddy," he said, "there's a little bit of morning outside."

What a way to describe the beauty of a fresh day. Especially if it's been a long and difficult night, the morning is a shift and represents a sunnier version of life: Something better. It says without using words- "Hope is here."

We all need a little bit of morning!

Nights are dark and long. Things of comfort normally visible in daylight, though they remain, become obscure at night.
They exist but cannot be seen.
They take up space but cannot be felt.
They are part of our lives, but darkness has squeezed them from our minds.
Hope becomes hidden, and even a good night's dream can't be remembered.
We all need a little bit of morning!

The morning light of hope unveils what was there all along.

Hope, by definition, is to want something to happen or be true. So, hope will shine its light everywhere: around circumstance, behind objects that instill fear, into the deepest corner of constraint, and behind every wall of anxiety. It will even reveal what you truly want in your heart.

Nothing goes unnoticed by hope. Hope alone is enough reason to try and try again. You are its gatekeeper, and yet it keeps you. Only you can decide when you've hoped enough. And even then, when you hope less, you are never hopeless. There will always be a little bit of morning!

In the Bible, Peter tells us to pay close attention to what the prophets wrote:

"for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts." (2 Peter 1:19)

This literally means He is the "light bringer."

While you wait for the morning-

  • Rest – even when you can't sleep, you can rest in God's promises. Read His promises!

  • Resist – turn off the bad news. You have an emotional budget, and you may have overspent.

  • Re-visit places and things in your mind that bring you peace and contentment.

The songwriter King, David, wrote:

"For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor, a lifetime. Weeping may stay overnight, but there is joy in the morning." (Psalms 30:5)

The transition from night to day is often slow. Frequently, there are clouds, smog, and various other things that seemingly delay the relief we so desperately need. I have some good news!

Since the beginning of time, a night has never been without a morning. You have hope!

Look for it, and you will see the day never starts in its most radiant brightness but always- with just a little bit of morning.
